Pediatric Intensive Care
The quality of care provided to children with life-threatening illnesses and injuries sets The University of Kansas Hospital apart from community hospitals. In fact, other hospitals often transfer their sickest children to our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).
Our PICU provides state-of-the-art care for children and adolescents with critical injuries and illnesses. Highly skilled nurses and intensivists (physicians with extensive training in pediatric critical care medicine) staff our PICU around the clock.
Nearly 400 children from across Kansas and Missouri are admitted to our family-focused PICU every year. Parents have 24-hour access to the unit and are encouraged to spend the night.
