Overcoming the constraints of hearing loss
Audiologists at The University of Kansas Hospital help people of all ages improve their quality of life and overcome the consequences of hearing loss.
There are three main types of hearing loss:
- Sensorineural
Permanent hearing loss is caused by damage to the inner ear or auditory nerve.
- Conductive
Earwax build-up, fluid or a punctured eardrum can keep sound waves from reaching the inner ear. These problems can usually be treated with medication and/or surgery.
- Mixed
This is a combination of sensorineural and conductive loss.
Services we provide include:
- Audiologic (Hearing) Testing
- Hearing Aids
- Cochlear Implants
- BAHA (Bone Anchored Hearing Aid) Implant
- Vestibular Testing
We also offer patients the opportunity to participate in clinical studies for the treatment of hearing loss.
