Traditionally, surgeons make a 4- to 6-inch incision to remove a lung tumor. Minimally invasive procedures are performed with smaller incisions – but require three of them.
Surgeons at The University of Kansas Hospital now perform an even more minimally invasive procedure – one that makes recovery easier and faster for our patients.
In video-assisted thoracic surgery, physicians can now remove lung tumors making a single, 2-inch incision (uniport). Remarkably, most patients are able to return home after only two days in the hospital.
