KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Staff from The University of Kansas Hospital will serve as the medical providers at the Big 12 men’s and women’s basketball tournaments. The hospital will provide on-site medical staff to support the Big 12 Tournament teams, including physicians, an athletic trainer and a radiology technician at each tournament session.
Leading the efforts will be Dr. Vincent Key, orthopedic surgeon, and Dr. Joseph Noland, internal medicine, both members of The University of Kansas Hospital’s sports medicine program. Key is also the team physician for the Kansas City Brigade Arena Football League team.
Key said the hospital’s role will be to provide on-site assistance to team physicians in the event of player or personnel injury.
“We will be on hand during all of the games and our role is to provide medical coordination,” Key said. “We already have the facilities, like the radiology equipment, because of our work for the Brigade so our role with the Big 12 is very similar.”
The women’s tournament runs March 11 to 15 at Kansas City, Missouri’s Municipal Auditorium and the men’s tournament runs March 13 to 16 at Sprint Center.
