Each year, nearly a half million people in the United States undergo radiation therapy. This treatment uses X-rays, electrons and gamma rays, alone or with surgery or chemotherapy to treat all types of cancer.
Members of our Cancer Care team at The University of Kansas Hospital are specially trained to provide radiation therapy to treat any type of cancer. Team members include:
- Radiation oncologists (physicians)
- Oncology nurses
- Radiation therapists
- Physicists
- Dosimetrists (team members who make sure a tumor gets the proper dose of radiation)
- Social workers
- Nutritionists
Your individual treatment plan will be presented and discussed by our experienced team of radiation oncologists, the chief radiation therapist and a nurse. Each member of the team will make recommendations regarding your treatment based on experience, research and your digital imaging scans.
