KANSAS CITY, Kan.– Beginning Monday, April 18, 2005, the Kansas City, Kansas Board of Public Utilities will be upgrading service lines to The University of Kansas Hospital’s new utility plant and the existing plant of the University of Kansas Medical Center. As a result 39th Street west of State Line Road and East of Cambridge Boulevard will be closed from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
During the day, steel plates will cover the cuts in 39th street to allow traffic to move normally. Ambulance services have been informed about the closure and alternative routes have been developed. Signage will direct traffic either north to 36th Street or south to Olathe Boulevard during closure periods.
Weather permitting, the work should be completed by Saturday, April 23. However, paving work to repair 39th Street is scheduled for April 23 and April 30. During the repaving, 39th Street will be limited to one lane.
The upgraded utility service will accommodate the growth in both the hospital and the university sides of the campus.
