2009 ANNUAL REPORT

FALL PREVENTION ENHANCES CARE

Fall prevention is a priority for every member of our staff.

One fall is too many. That's our philosophy. Through a renewed interdisciplinary focus on fall prevention, we reduced falls 12 percent in 2009 from the previous year.

Multiple initiatives account for these results. Now, all acute care staff receive fall prevention training. Nurses assess fall risk factors throughout the patient's stay. They identify high-risk fall patients by a yellow wrist band, socks and signs. And the hospital recognizes employees' extraordinary steps to prevent falls through our "Great Catch" program.

We will keep working to prevent falls. This continuous drive is one more way The University of Kansas Hospital provides a safe, quality environment for our patients.
