2009 ANNUAL REPORT

AMONG NATION'S BEST AT SAVING LIVES

Our intense focus on providing safe, high-quality care has made us one of the best hospitals in the nation. In 2009, we ranked in the top 9 percent of academic hospitals for risk-adjusted mortality, the truest indicator of care quality. This ranking was based on outcomes data collected by University HealthSystem Consortium, an alliance of 103 academic medical centers, including the most prestigious in the country.

We achieved a record-low mortality rate through initiatives like our Rapid Response Team, which speeds care to patients whose conditions may be worsening. Other lifesaving initiatives include our Acute Stroke Response Team, activated at the first signs of stroke, and our Surviving Sepsis program, aimed at fighting potentially deadly infections.

9 Our low mortality rate ranked among the top 9th percentile of academic hospitals.

These outstanding results were achieved while we were caring for more patients than ever before – patients who were also more acutely ill than those treated in previous years.
