2009 ANNUAL REPORT

ENSURING AN INFECTION-FREE ENVIRONMENT

Staff safety initiatives reduce infection at our hospital.

We believe patients shouldn't have to worry about infection while they're in the hospital. That's why we work hard to ensure an infection-free environment at The University of Kansas Hospital.

Prevention programs like our hand hygiene initiative are built around evidence-based medical practices established by the National Healthcare Safety Network – all with the goal of keeping patients safe. And these efforts are paying off. In all categories of measurement, such as ventilator-associated pneumonia, our rate of infection is well below national benchmarks.
