2009 ANNUAL REPORT

THREE PROGRAMS MAKE "AMERICA'S BEST HOSPITALS"

Three programs at The University of Kansas Hospital were named to U.S. News & World Report's prestigious America's Best Hospitals list for 2009-2010.

Our ear, nose and throat program ranked 36th, heart and heart surgery ranked 39th and our kidney program was 48th. They are the only programs in the region listed in these categories. Our heart program has made the list for three consecutive years; its mortality index was third best among the 50 hospitals in the category. The kidney program's mortality index was fourth best in its category.

A total of 4,861 hospitals were analyzed, with only 174 named to the America's Best Hospitals list. Facilities are judged in 16 specialties and on four components: reputation, mortality, patient safety and other care-related factors, such as nursing and patient services.
