Opened in December 2008, the $11.5 million, 24,600-square-foot area stretches along the hospital's top floor. The combined patient care units – Neuroscience Intensive Care and Neuroscience Progressive Care – added 36 private beds, with a shared nurses' station and the Jake Clough Family Room between the two. Neurological care had previously been distributed among six units.
Beds on both units are wired for continuous video EEG monitoring across the hospital network. Extra monitoring is important because a patient's neurological changes can be subtle.
