TREADS & THREADS NETS OVER $688,000 FOR CANCER PATIENT CARE
A roar went through the crowd when Treads & Threads co-chair Mark Faber announced: "Despite these tough economic times, we have exceeded our goal and grossed more than $1 million for cancer care!"
Under the stars and inside the oval at Kansas Speedway, The University of Kansas Hospital’s eighth annual gala benefit drew a sold-out crowd of more than 3,000 partygoers. Emcee Larry Moore of KMBC-TV summed up the event as "the best time in Kansas City for a worthy cause."
Faber and wife Holly, an operating room nurse at the hospital, were event chairs, with U.S. Sen. Bob Dole as honorary chair. Brandmeyer Enterprises and Perceptive Software were presenting sponsor and stage sponsor, respectively.
After expenses, the event netted more than $688,000 for cancer patient care. Proceeds will help expand the apheresis unit at the main hospital campus so more blood and marrow transplant patients can receive lifesaving treatments. In addition, an appearance center will be created at the Richard and Annette Bloch Cancer Care Pavilion in Westwood to offer wigs, headwear, garments and other products designed for cancer patients to help in their journey toward healing.
