We take what we do best beyond the walls of our hospital to our neighbors and the surrounding region.
Through our Surviving Sepsis Campaign, we have become the recognized authority in the region on the treatment of sepsis, a severe illness caused by overwhelming infection from toxin-producing bacteria. We train staff at other hospitals to identify signs of sepsis, immediately begin treatment and work together to achieve better outcomes. Our protocol is now used by 15 hospitals in Kansas and Missouri.
We also helped vaccinate 3,600 people who drove through our campus for free flu shots. Employee teams repaired homes in our community through Christmas in October. We combined efforts with the Headstrong for Jake Foundation to make bicycle outings safer for hundreds of children. Trauma and Burn Services helped install 300 smoke detectors in Leavenworth County homes. The Nursing Float Pool collected 80 pounds of pull tabs to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House. Staff brought in donations and walked for the American Heart Association, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, American Cancer Society, the United Way and many other worthy organizations.
